Shihan George Strydio, Shichi Dan (7th degree black belt) Isshin Ryu Karate

George Strydio is a retired Airborne Freight Union Representative. During his High School years he was All County and All State athletic both in football and baseball.
He began his martial arts training in the early 1960's studying Judo. He started Isshin Ryu Karate training in 1969 under Master Robert Mansfield of Jersey City, NJ. He is still active reaching the rank of Shichi Dan. Besides teaching at the local Dojo he has taught at the Jersey City Police Academy assisting Master Robert Mansfield. He also taught in many non profits self defense for women throughout various communities. He is one of the top instructors, which is purely non profit, at the Saint Peter's College Isshin Ryu Dojo under Sensei Robert Mansfield. 

Besides Isshin Ryu he has studied other martial arts such as Judo, Street Combat (Senitori), Dekiti Tirsia Sirada system (Kali), Taizan-Ryu, Goshin-Jutsu, Boxing and Weapons (Bo, Sai, Cane).
George has received the following awards: inducted into the 2000 Grand Master Don Nagle Hall of Fame, inducted into the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame in 2003, the Gary Alexander 2003 International Association Humanitarian Award, the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame Spirit Award in 2004, and he is receiving at the 2005 Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame Dinner Awards the 2005 AMAM Humanitarian Award for his work with the Community Cancer Group, which he founded in 2002.
George has been fighting his cancer since 1997 with the last several years of remission, however the cancer is back. He's having treatments and is very weak.
He founded the Community Cancer Support Group in the fall of 2002. Their motto is “Cancer Patients That Are Friends”. This group started out with a small group of volunteers of support team of physicians, nurses and people living with cancer. Today this group has grown to approximately 100 plus with an account of $30,000.00, which is geared for the group.
The organization provides a library of books, videos and magazines of interest to people with cancer, as well as computers, motivational speakers, dietitians and even comic relief. He seeks out experts in various fields, such as financial planning and cosmetology, to speak at meetings.
The group collects toys, clothes and games for young cancer patients at the Cancer Institute of N.J., Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center of N.J., Morristown Memorial Hospital and other facilities where Hudson County youngsters go for treatment. His group is in the process of forming a Children's Club. This group would take field trips to circus, zoos and ballgames under the sponsorship of his group.
